Ecoute
Season 2026–2027
When musicians open the doors to their art — so that you will never hear music the same way again.
The Concept
Clé d' Ecoute is a concert series like no other: before they play, the musicians talk.
They tell the story of the piece they are about to perform — its architecture, its hidden tensions, what happens in the silence between two notes. They reveal what a musician hears, feels, decides in the moment.
Then they play. With all the rigour, depth and sensitivity that only a life devoted to this art can give.
What you hear afterwards will sound nothing like what you would have heard before.
The Explanation
Before each performance, the musicians reveal the keys to listening to the work — its language, its intentions, its mysteries.
The Performance
The work is then performed without compromise, at the level of excellence that only the experience of great artists can achieve.
The Exchange
A moment of open dialogue with the audience — questions, reflections, extensions. Music as a living conversation.
"Music is not to be understood. It is to be inhabited."
Founding principle of Clé d' Ecoute
"Death and the Maiden"
Der Tod und das Mädchen
Lied opus 7 No.3 D531 (1817)
Poem by Matthias Claudius, German poet (1740–1815)
Original version
Das Mädchen
Vorüber! Ach, vorüber!
Geh, wilder Knochenmann!
Ich bin noch jung, geh Lieber!
Und rühre mich nicht an.
Der Tod
Gib deine Hand, du schön und zart Gebild!
Bin Freund, und komme nicht, zu strafen.
Sei gutes Muts! ich bin nicht wild,
Sollst sanft in meinen Armen schlafen!
English translation
The Maiden
Pass me by! Oh, pass me by!
Go, fierce man of bone!
I am still young — go, dear one!
And do not touch me.
Death
Give me your hand, you fair and tender form!
I am a friend, and come not to punish.
Be of good courage! I am not cruel,
You shall sleep softly in my arms!
